Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older, people under age 65 with certain disabilities, and people of any age with End-Stage Renal Disease.

  • Medicare Part A covers facility-based care such as hospital visits, emergency room services, hospice, and nursing home care.
  • Medicare Part B covers traditional outpatient treatments and services, including vaccinations, lab tests, mental health services, outpatient operations, durable medical equipment, and most other medical services not performed in a hospital.
  • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) covers elements of Parts A, B, and sometimes D.
  • Medicare Part D covers prescription drugs.
  • Medicare Supplements are offered through private insurance companies and aim to fill in the “gaps” left in traditional Medicare coverage.
  • Extra Help – “Extra Help” or Low Income Subsidy is a program to help people with low income and resources to pay Part D premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and other costs.
  • Medicare Savings Programs – (MSP) are federally funded programs administered by each individual state. These programs are for people with limited income and resources to help pay some or all of their Medicare premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. Those with very limited income and resources may also qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) “food stamps.” We can help you apply for Medicare Savings Programs in DuBois, Clearfield, St Mary’s, and Altoona, PA
  • What is Medicare’s IRMAA? The Medicare Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) is an amount you may pay in addition to your Part B and/or Part D premiums if you have a high income above a certain level. The Social Security Administration (SSA) sets four income brackets that determine your (or you and your spouse’s) IRMAA. We can help you with IRMAA planning and Wealth Management in DuBois, Clearfield, St Mary’s, and Altoona, PA.

Know Your Options

While original Medicare offers coverage for a wide variety of services, you may find that a different plan through a private insurance company better fits your needs. We can help you find coverage through either Medicare Supplements or Medicare Advantage Plans. Both of these types of programs offer additional support through insurance companies, and they are required to provide equal or better coverage when compared to original Medicare. As described earlier, Medicare Supplements pick up where Medicare leaves off (for approved charges) and fill in the “gaps.” You can go to any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare patients. Our clients usually have a separate Part D prescription drug plan.

In comparison, most Medicare Advantage plans truly operate like health insurance plans with provider & pharmacy networks, copays, out-of-pocket limits, and most have Part D built-in drug coverage.

Licensed agents must complete Continuing Education (every two years) and have Specialized Training (Annual Certifications) for certain products. With all Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage plans, you must still pay your Medicare Part B premium.
